ETHERS
Commissioned Artwork for Toofoola's Campaign "Don't Look Away". A dream of a moment only weaved of the silent cries of the maiden, the loving arms of the mother and put to rest by the crone. Transcending time and space; lost just to be constantly found time and time again. Journeying and manifesting in an imagined state of serenity Ethers evokes a mystical recognition of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone, each of which symbolizes both a separate stage in the female life cycle and a phase of the Moon. The significance of the mysticism as a guide to deciphering this work continues to lend itself in the underlying acknowledgement of rebirth and menstruation. Trapped between melancholy and imagination the subjects remain oblivious to observation and thus granting a unique moment of private intimacy seldom experienced by women themselves in reality. The artistic composition plays on trinities whether seen in the symbolism of the triple goddess or the rule of thirds. Trinities or triads of three closely associated deities were commonly found throughout the ancient world further entrenching the viewer in a reconstructed reality where melancholy to a time unknown feels more akin to a familiar dream.
